I can't say where my favorite vacation spot is. We have been fortunate enough to go to Hawaii, Mexico. Phoenix, Texas, most of the Southwest, Minnesota, Southeast, East, Our youngest daughter lived in southern PA, about 30 miles from Gettysburg for a while and that was great. We got to see Maryland, D.C., VA, West V.A. Ohio. In fact, we are leaving tomorrow for Mo, Tenn, Miss, La, Ala, Fla, GA, SC, NC, Ky and back home. We will be gone 4 to 6 weeks. Spent 2 weeks touring Alaska in July and August. I like them all. It is more like the experiences are memorable. Like the hawk that flew through the window of our motor home and we endeed up driving into this really gorgeous motor home park and we looked like the Clampett's because our window was duct taped or when the neighbor behind us backed into our motor home and then had the guts to say it was our fault because we were parked over the line. He backed his big honking pickup off his parking platform and rammed right into us. We won and his insurance paid. Or the time our parkiing brakes gave out and I had to keep jumping out and had to put chocks around all the wheels. That's a lot of wheels on a 38 foot motor home and they are far apart. Good thing we each have a great sense of humor. Incidentally, we are taking the car this year. I am planning on going Europe this year with a group from the school, but that is very iffy right now, with the health problems I have had....the reason for my resignation. Time will tell.--Jeanette from Scribner
My favorite spot to vacation right now is in Texas. My brother and sister-in-law moved there last year so I've been down a couple of times. I love the warm weather and getting to see the ocean. I recently visited San Antonio and spent time on the river walk. South Padre Island is great for doing nothing but watching the waves (next time I go I am going to try parasailing). I enjoy the area my brother lives in Mission, TX is very nice. I think I could get used to no snow. Another great place is of course is Disney World, I spent 10 days there in 2007 with my neices and we had a great time. I would recommend setting up times in advance to have meals with the character my neices loved it.
I had the opportunity to travel to Europe a couple of years ago with our school group. It was great traveling with friends and learning so much about European history. Ever since I read the book "Felice" by Marcia Brown, I wanted to see Venice, but I never thought I'd get the chance. Then I was actually there, walking on the bridges across the canals and watching the gondolas. I didn't much care for the heat, dust and crowds in Rome, but I loved the cool quiet villages near Lucerene, Switzerland. We took an evening walk through a village that looked like a Thomas Kinkaide painting, listening to cowbells echoing on the mountainside and following the trail of a mountain brook. -Daneda See a slide show of my trip at:European Trip
My favorite spot to vacation is around Seattle, WA - because our oldest son, daughter-in-law, and 2-year-old grandson live there (right now at Kirkland) and we only see them once a year, if we're lucky -- they are just too far away. We spent a great deal of time going to Hart Ranch near Rapid City, SD, when our 5 kids were little and we had a Hi-Lo camper - a great time was had by all. Now we like to go to Branson, MO., to visit Silver Dollar City and to see the Haygoods, maybe even go to DixieLand Stampede. Hawaii is beautiful, and I hope to see Alaska sometime, maybe on a cruise. My favorite foreign places to visit are Switzerland and Germany, especially the Passion Play at Oberammergau, Germany -- it is held every 10 years (coming up in 2010). I do want to visit Australia and maybe New Zealand someday. keri_from_alma
My favorite vacation spot is somewhere I've never been. There's a whole wide world out there. And if I go back to somewhere, I always try to do things or see things I didn't on my previous trip. -- cd
I would have to say my favorite place now is Branson. But in Branson it is Silver Dollar City. We lived in Springfield for 12 years and had a season pass to Silver Dollar City almost every year. I love it. When I was a kid though my favorite place was a lake in Minnesota. My parents have a cabin there now and it is still fun to go there. - Tammi
I love the west. I have only made a few trips to states that are not adjacent to Nebraska. The mountains in Colorado and Utah are espicially beautiful. Arizona, New Mexico and California are also favorite places to visit. These are usually working vacations. My wife and I usually don't travel that far without a greater purpose than just having fun.
These working trips have offered some interesting happy accidents though. We wound up following part of Route 66 one time. We took, I believe it was Pacific Coast highway one time, past some of the most beautiful fields I have ever seen. It was complete with farmers advertising the sale of fresh pecans, fruit and vegetables of all sort. It was pure paradise for someone who finds the intrinsic beauty of farms and rural life.
One time we found ourselves "standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona", because of a vehicle breakdown. On another occassion we wound up spending the night in a cheap motel in Hooker, Oklahoma.
I guess there's probably a reason we don't leave the area too often. One life can only stand so much adventure.-Dan Nieman
I never got to tral much as a kid my family never took vacations. I worked two summers in alaska, before the pipeline, and really loved the country and the people. Great to visit in the summer time, not so great after October 1. Right now I would like to vacation anywhere that would be warm. library535
I have had a few favorite vacations so far. I loved Portland, OR. Two of my very close friends live there, so I had great tour guides and we drove out to the ocean one day and ate fresh seafood as we looked out at the Pacific.:) Half a day in Portland was spent wandering around Powell's AKA book heaven. I also had a wonderful time in New York City going to museums, the opera, touristy places, and Broadway plays. Savannah, GA in early Spring is also spectacular. ~ Robin Q.
Our favorite vacations are to go to Arizona or the Kansas City area to see our children. Everyone should go to Branson too as there is so much to do there.
Branson timeshare, anyone? My mom would love to pass hers along now that she can't travel easily. Cranefarm
I like the Pine Ridge area in NE. WillieOur family has been traveling a lot the past 5 years, bankrolled by my 84-year-old mother who wants to do some things while she can. We went to Buffalo, NY where my dad grew up. Had a great time at Niagara Falls , thanks to my cousin who is retired from the N.F. Park Police. We got the V.I.P. treatment and did everything you can think of on the American side. Next trip was to the West coast where my uncle lives in Sacramento, CA. Spent 2 weeks touring San Francisco, Monterey, Big Sur, Lake Tahoe and Reno. Hearst Castle in San Simeon is a "must see". Last summer was Santa Fe, NM. My brother lives on a small acreage next to the Pecos River. It's too dry in NM for my taste, but it was nice to escape the humidity in Nebraska for a week. There is so much history in NM and the Indian pueblos are fascinating to visit. Went white-water rafting on the Rio Grande River near Taos.
Other than visiting windy Wyoming to see the kids and grandkids, we have been going annually to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for the past 25 years. Manged to get there twice in 2008, and just love the islands; we go south to Hatteras and stay in one of the villages: Avon, Frisco, Buxton, Hatteras. Sometimes with children and grandchildren, often with siblings from Virginia and Nebraska. Surf and sand in September - doesn't get much better than that. Judy G.
We really haven't traveled very far. Mostly Colorado, South Dakota, Kansas, Missouri and Arizonia. We did go to the Florida Keys last February and I loved the ocean. I would like to go back sometime or visit another tropical vacation spot. ~bev 1-2-09
Since our daughter moved to North Carolina a few years ago...that has been a favorite. The mountains are beautiful and gentler and softer than the Rockies. The Blueridge Parkway is spectacular!! Visit NC! So says Kathy the Librarian!
Spain and Estes Park, CO. ~kathryn.
I love Iowa -- especially Pella and the Amana Colonies! - Madame Librarian
I have never been to Iowa tell me why you would like to go there and what is great in Pella?
Dawn
Pella is a dutch community about 35 minutes from Des Moines. Lots of local color, good food, and nice people. Every May they celebrate Tulip Time and the entire town gets involved. It is also the home of Pella Windows. If you ever make it there, say Hi to the folks at Peace Lutheran Church for me. -- lauran lofgren
I like to go to Scotland - first to Endinburgh and then to the Northern Isles or west to Skye. I also like to go to Alaska..really awesome ice caves in the glacier west of Fairbanks and camping on the Omar River. Lizziej
I see someone else loves Missouri! I love it in June when everything is green and lush!
Kay
I admit I have a love of travel. Places I would like to return to include Lake Superior and the coast of Maine.
Terri (cranefarm)
I have lots of places I love - Branson, Door County, WI, Cruising anywhere!
Linda
I guess my favorite place I went to was Anituvak Pass in Alaska. I spent two summer in Alaska doing volunteer work and was lucky enough to visit Anituvak twice. what made the place so special was the people.
I love southern Missouri in the fall!!
Dana
An old favorite vacation spot that we went to last summer is Mount Rushmore. Still love the scenery.
Ann
I love to go to Mount Rushmore, also. Of course it helps that I can see my son when we head up to the badlands in South Dakota. I also love the warm beaches of Cancun, Mexico. Vickie

My favorite vacation spot is Phoenix, Arizona during February or March. My family lives there and it's great to see them and also get away from the cold weather. Phoenix has great shopping too! - vc
My two favorite vacation spots (so far) have been Northern California and New Orleans. I was lucky enough to travel with a friend to Northern California, just south of Arcadia, and stay with a retired doctor and her husband in their home in the mountains for about a month. It was so diverse and yet it was rural, nothing at all like rural Nebraska. There was art and music and new and different people everywhere you looked, not to mention the absolutely beautiful redwoods and the ocean. By far one of the best times of my life. New Orleans (the French Quarter) is also rich and beautiful, infused with music, good food, architecture and interesting people. I want to visit both places again someday. ~ Tiffany
I really like New England by the sea. I also like Door County in Wisconsin in the summer. Anywhere you can be near the water is great.
I love to visit Idaho, where my family lives near Boise, and also every place that our son and his family live. They just moved from Connecticut to Virginia. They usually live by the ocean since he is in the Navy.- Kathy H.
Pretty much my favorite vacation spot is wherever I am planning a trip to at the moment. I am sneaking away with my husband to New Orleans over his Spring break to ogle old buildings and eat cajun seafood. We even hope to go on a vampire tour. I always have had an affinity for the Rocky mountains and it seems that I need a mountain fix often. My daughter lives in south Texas, so we often spend vacation time burning up Interstate 35, but that sometimes doesn't feel like a vacation. I could return to Venice, Italy at a moment's notice and would highly recommend it to anyone. - Pam B.
I have had the opportunity to visit many different places in the United States. I spent a year living in Madrid, Spain working as a translator and teacher of English. I have also visited Greece and Scotland. Next I would like to go to Holland. I recently learned that my Great Grandfather immigrated from there. - gew

My favorite vacation spot would be any where it is warmer than our current temp without the windchill factor of -15. Yes it is still early in the evening well 5:24 p.m. on Sunday December 14, 2008.
On the level my favorite vacation spot is New Mexico. Nature at it's finest in all seasons, shopping, skiing, golf, and fantastic jewelry. What more could a woman desire?

Took a solo trip to Germany last May. Was timid about it at first, but talked to other women who traveled solo, so decided to take the plunge. Will definitely do it again. Met more people than I would have with a travel partner, and keeping an extensive journal took the place of chatting.

Even though I have traveled lots of places over the world in my 62 years I still prefer to spend my vacation time at the family cottage on Grand Lake, Colorado.
Following graduation from UNL I hitch hiked through Europe while I waited to enter the AF that October. It was lots of fun but it was also nice to get back to GL before entering the service. While in the AF I was stationed in NE Thailand at NKP RTAFB for nearly a year. It was a great learning experience but a little too hot and humid for my liking. My most recent vacation was in eastern France for about two weeks. I went there to attend the wedding of a French college student who had lived with me for almost two years while going to college in NE in the early 1990s. It was a super adventure and one vacation I would love to take again.
I return to NE for my winters and don't mind the cold. Having grown up in SWN I am used to our winters and actually enjoy shoveling snow for exercise. During the winters here I'm always looking forward to my time in GL each summer.

Our favorite vacation was a cruise to different islands in Hawaii. No, we didn't plan this trip, it was a gift to us and we have revisited it in our minds many many times. Our dream is to be able to go back someday.

My favorite place for vacation is Puerto Rico. I lived in North Carolina, Connecticut and Spain, and all three are very beautiful places to visit. El viejo San Juan, el Yunque and Luquilo in Puerto Rico are my favorite places in my island.

As a former military brat I have seen a lot of the world and met tons of people. I prefer to go to new places where I can see different people, and customs. I love learning of new ways to see the world. So, when I win that lottery my big plan is to travel the world and meet different nationalities and people throughout. Sadly though, at this point I have to stick to books and the Discovery channel.
